Holitech plans $200 million plant in Andhra Pradesh

Chinese mobile phone company Holitech has signed a MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a manufacturing facility at Tirupati for Xiaomi.

Holitech Technology, which provides mobile components to the world's top mobile brands, on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government for a plant to be based on 75 acres of land, its first major expansion outside China.

The local manufacturing by one of its key component suppliers will give a further cost advantage to Xiaomi, which is currently producing a major chunk of its India made smartphones in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri City industrial park through Foxconn.

Company Chief Executive Flame Chen said that Holitech will now persuade its other suppliers to set up facilities in India as well, that will give a push to the overall component ecosystem. This is first our major investment outside of China. Now, we plan to expand and will follow Xiaomi recommendation to expand in other continents.
