DMK chief Kalaignar Karunanidhi passes away

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK stalwart M. Karunanidhi is no more, Kauvery Hospital announced on Tuesday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his anguish over the death of DMK President M. Karunanidhi.

Describing former Tamil Nadhu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi as a doyen of public life, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday expressed grief over his death, saying the country is poorer today.

Born on 3 June 1924 as ‘Dakshinamoorthy’ in Thirukuvalai, Nagapattinam district, Karunanidhi went on to marry thrice, and had six children.

Karunanidhi, who was popularly referred to as Kalaignar was admitted to the hospital on July 28 after he contracted urinary tract infection and developed a high fever.
