Energy Efficiency Services Ltd is lending the electric vehicles for hire on monthly basis as per the agreement signed with the state government.

NREDCAP will pay EESL Rs 20,000 per vehicle per month and give another Rs 20,000 per month to the departments concerned to pay for the driver and maintenance costs. The hired drivers will be given special orientation on the use of batteries and gears in the new vehicle.

After six years, the ownership of the vehicles will transfer to the state government. According to officials, each electric car costs Rs 11 lakh.

The vehicles will be supplied to joint directors and joint commissioner cadre officers as their travel will be limited from point to point.

APSPDCL has already finalized vendors for supply of charging equipment as per the norms set by the Union government. Typically, these cars can run for about 120km on a full charge. They can be charged in six hours via an AC charger and in 90 minutes using a DC charger. The cost of using these vehicles come to only Rs 1.5 to Rs 2 per kilometer.
